Both my kids loved Venice, and of all the places we have traveled, this is my daughter's favorite. Exploring European cities with kids can be a tricky business. Kids might get bored spending hours strolling around looking at architecture with adults. However, in Venice, there is a good probability that this will not be an issue.
With an economy highly dependent on tourism, Venice has scores of options for hotels. If you want to splurge, there are some very extravagant hotels with rooms facing the Grand Canal. However, if you are looking for practical options, the search can get tedious. The two factors I prioritized while searching for a reasonably priced accommodation were location and the absence of mosquitoes. Our final selection: The Hotel Pantalon on Calle Crosera. www.hotelpantalon.com/en/
Hotel Pantalon sits on a pleasant street in the Dorsoduro district, sheltered from the hordes of tourists. Most of the closeby restaurants seemed to attract many locals. It is also very centrally located within Venice. In terms of price, the hotel is a great value. If booking here, be sure to check multiple sites because the prices can vary quite a bit. When I made reservations, I found the best rates on Agoda, which I had never previously used.
